Why I love The Spit for Portrait Photography - Gold Coast

If you’re on the Gold Coast and looking for a place to take some portraits on a beach, I’d recommend The Spit! The Spit is located at the end Seaworld Drive near Sea World (duh).

Now it’s definitely not the most beautiful place on the coast but it is very versatile. You can shoot here during sunrise over the ocean or if that’s too early for you, go to the opposite side for a sunset shoot!

On the main side (the side closest to the sea), there is a break water with a light house on the end which can help make some cool photos, if you’re looking for a shoot that includes some rocks next to the water there’s also that option. The jetty that reaches far into the water can make for some nice leading lines and other geometry to play with. The area between the carpark and the beach contains a lot of bush and there are a few trails in there where you could probably find an interesting spot to take photos in. Of course there’s the beach itself, it’s a much less populated beach than some of the other beaches on the coast so interruptions are a little lower, not to mention the abundance of parking, I’ve literally gone there on the busiest of days and always found parking!

On the opposite side (west side), there’s typically less people and calmer waters with a pretty good vantage point of the city skyline! The only small downside is there is a lot less parking over that side however, it being less busy helps with finding a spot.
